Seven Tiki White Rum
Fiji

40% alcohol by volume

This is 42 Below’s newest product and is made in Fiji. It has a very restrained, clean and almost vodka nose and is a thick clear white spirit at room temperature. At room temperature it hints at cinnamon, malt and palm sugar and is vaguely reminiscent of syrah. Over ice the spicy notes become more pronounced and it takes on a warm, green (I am taking a punt by saying flax-like) finish. In a cocktail the palm sugar notes become more prominent and the finish is clean and crisp. It is a wonderful white rum and something a little bit different to other similar products on the market.

It is bit of an odd product as the words Aotearoa (Maori for NZ), New Zealand and information about early NZ history are far more present than information about its Fijian provenance; as are the Tiki motifs - an icon that is quintessentially Kiwi.

Seven Tiki was tasted neat, on ice and in a Cuban (or Fijian) Libre cocktail.
It should also be noted, for those who haven’t already heard the news, that 42 Below is being bought out by Bacardi but production will remain in NZ.

Great post! You may find in fact that the Tiki is quintessentially a Pacific motif, rather than specifically Kiwi. The name, and the design, allude to the myth of the 'Great Fleet', seven waka that left Hawaiiki for Aotearoa after a mighty migration across the Pacific.

You may also find that this is not a 'dark rum' at all...
This rum is superb with ginger beer and fresh lime, and as you suggest, with coke and lime, though being Fijian, this rum is more properly called a 'Coup-ba Libre'. Boom boom...

Burgundy Wine lies at the very heart of France, and is one of the world’s finest wine producing regions. Located two hours to the southeast of Paris, the wine area starts in Chablis in the north of the region and then it follows the autoroute A6 southerly to Lyon.

The Burgundy soil is mainly based on oolitic limestone, upon which both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes flourish. The red wines, made with the Pinot Noir, are more difficult to grow because these grapes are more sensitive to disease or to being badly handled. Towards the south of the region, from around Macon, the soil changes to a reddish granite schist and sand of the Beaujolais. Here, the Gamay grape flourishes, making excellent red wines, many of which are drunk while they are young.

If you have not been to Burgundy, try it. It is a great part of France to visit for a holiday. Alternatively, stay at home and simply drink and enjoy the wine.
