Neudorf ‘Brightwater’ Pinot Gris 2006
Nelson

Again, a ‘Pinot Gris Pinot Gris’ with a flavour profile that I just can’t pin down 100%; the dominant fruit flavours were pear, citrus fruit (meyer lemons and tangerine) and possibly quince. Below this was a touch of spiciness and a soft, mellow and warm smoky/toasty taste that their website pins down on the yeast and describes as ‘home baking’. It has a luscious, creamy, sensual (and really quite sexy) texture with a little bit of sweetness, heightening the fruit flavours. The wine has a clean, fresh, dry finish - in short, it is a very beautiful Pinot Gris (just don’t drink it too cold).

I am a big fan of Neudorf - I just find it can be hard to get hold of.
